My favorite time of the year in NYC is definitely Christmas – all the festive decors is just so beautiful. The bright extravagant displays of holiday cheer definitely makes me happy! I visited the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree, in Midtown New York City, and wanted to share the photos of it and other decorations nearby with you.
The 2016 tree is the second tallest – soaring to the sky at the height of 94 foot. The 56 foot wide, 14 ton Norway Spruce originated from Oneonta, NY, and it's donated to Rockefeller Center, which then donates the lumber after the display. The majestic beauty is embellished with 50,000 lights. It's right in front of the ice skating ring, so you can also enjoy it while skating around with friends. On the opposite end is a row of angels playing on trumpets.
Want to see the Swarovski star that grace the top of the tree? A replica of the same scale is displayed across the block for us to admire the great, intricate craftsmanship behind it. This masterpiece is 9 1/2 feet in diameter and 1 1/2 feet deep and so detailed – with 25,000 glistening crystals, one million facets and is lit up with energy efficient LED light bulbs.
Besides the tree, my other favorite holiday displays is the giant Christmas ornaments in front of 1251 Sixth Avenue Exxon Building, which is across from the Radio City Music Hall. It floats atop of a lit up fountain, and with the surrounding light adorned trees, it's a sight not to be missed. It's best viewed at night, so you can enjoy the rich red hues against the bright lights.
